A Cane

Five older people strolling in the park with canes

According to your responses, it looks like a cane might be the right mobility aid for you!

You got this result because it sounds like you have good enough leg strength and balance to manage with a cane, which is great news!

A cane is normally the most suitable choice of mobility aid if you have noticed slight changes in your walking ability such as:

  • A loss of balance

  • Lightly holding walls or furniture for support

  • Feeling weak or tired when walking further

Canes (or walking sticks) can be perfect for providing that little bit of extra support that you need. They are light, portable and sometimes even foldable to pop in your bag!

But please bear in mind that you need to be allowed to put full weight through your legs in order for a cane to be suitable for you.

Just a word of caution...

If you are falling over or having near misses it’s important that you see a physiotherapist or a doctor so they can help you stop falling.

Also, please see a professional before choosing a mobility aid! Many factors come into choosing the right aid so getting a mobility assessment will mean you get the safest and best one for you.

A Physiotherapist would be the best professional to talk to about canes!
